Easier said than done...just do it. Especially for the person who follows the teachings of Jesus. Oh yeah-you'll find a bunch who talk it. Big time. But those usually aren't the ones you find doing it. Doing what?
Well, here's a PG-13 excerpt from the Bible. Luke 11. We find Jesus teaching a crowd some pretty deep stuff-demon possession, the Lord's prayer, divided kingdoms, etc. In the middle of all of this, some woman (maybe the first Catholic?) yells out....
"Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which nursed You!"
Whoa. That's a statement. But she misses the whole point-she wants to bring glory to Jesus' mother. Here's the Man in front of her, and she is busy thinking about how great His mom is. Weird, huh?
And Jesus' response-"More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" He didn't rebuke her, he didn't correct her. He said-yes, she is blessed BUT more than that, if you practice God's word, you will be more blessed than the woman who bore the Son of God. More than Mary. More than Joseph.
Practicing the Word. Doing it. It brings blessings and joy-fulfillment and satisfaction-holiness and godliness. Here's a few excerpts that are challenging me.....I fear that I'm not practicing it very well. How about you?
Matt. 25:35-40 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.' Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?' And the King will answer and say to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.'
James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world
