Worship Set Lists-Whaddya think?

If you are a worship leader and you read this blog, I want to know your thoughts on something.

There are different schools of thought on worship for local churches. Simply from a song selection standpoint, here are the models I know of:

1-The worship leader has total freedom to pick whatever songs he feels led to do.

2-The pastor picks all the songs, and the worship leader simply does them.

3-The pastor and the worship leader sit together each week and choose the songs.

Which one is the model you do right now, and what do you think about it? For example, our church is a #1, within reason.

Whaddya think?

We are in between a #1 and a #3. The worship leaders at our church all pretty much play what they feel led to, but often, and i mean OFTEN, the pastor will come to the worship leaders late in the week and ask them to play a specific song that coming weekend that he feels will go with the message. (Our pastor also used to be a worship leader himself.)

The specific leader I play for also will do songs he feels led to do even in the middle of the set. Basically, any songs we learn/play on any given week go into a "bag," & he will pull songs out of that bag if that's where he feels worship is going at a given moment. This may also include just a chorus or a bridge of a song, which we will just do in the key we're already playing in.

My man,

At the church I lead worship at, I'd say it's a mixture between 1 and 3. I ultimately have the freedom to introduce new songs (within reason) as often as I want, yet I also sit down with my pastor every week and work a week ahead to get the message title, theme, scriptures, and mood in order to pick a set that compliments the message he feels God wants Him to share. Ever since we've been really intentional about the songs complimenting the message, especially our "reflection" song (Song after message), we've been seeing INCREDIBLE results in the hearts of our church body during that time.
